Swarovski SLC HD vs SLC Non HD and Vortex Razor HD
« on: January 24, 2017, 04:57:43 PM »
Can anyone who has looked through the older Swaro SLC (58110 non HD) tell me what kind of a difference there is between them and the now standard HD (58310)? Is there much of a difference in clarity, brightness, etc. And how does the quality of the older model SLC compare to a new pair of Vortex Razor HD? I'm not concerned right now about the warranties or CS, just the quality of the optic.

I had the old SLC 15x56 until they were stolen a little over a year ago, I loved those binos. Swarovski shipped me a new pair overnight by fedex and the new hd SLC is even better, noticeably better. I highly recommend them, but if you are not used to high power binoculars you would be better off with a lower power than 15x. I can't speak about Vortex, I've never compared them.

Throw the zeiss conquest hd in there (slightly better glass than the vortex imo) and that's the same group of glass we're shopping for the wife right now too. Looking forward to the input you get (SLC HD is the only one I haven't looked thru yet)

I ran the slc non hd's for years and they were great. Decided to upgrade to the slc hd's and don't think I needed to, can't see any difference.  :twocents:

I've had 12 power vortex diamondbacks for the last few years but I'll be going down to 10 power in one of these 3 I listed, although I like the idea of 15 power. I settled on 10 power so I could have a well rounded pair that will work in the blacktail jungle as well as backpacking into the high country for muleys and bear. I found a pair of Swaro SLC Non HD for $1150.00, that's how this whole thread started for me.

Thanks for the relpy lewy. What was the difference in weight and bulk like? Noticeable at all or negligible?

minimal but the hd's are a bit less bulky. I'm sure you can find the exact specs

I feel there's a big difference between the SLC HDs and the SLCs. I'd personally take the SLC HDs over the non HD EL's. :twocents:

I ended up buying a pair of 10x42 SLC HD and absolutely love them. Glassed from 1000-2000 yards yesterday evening until dark which was about 5:45 and I was extremely impressed with the brightness and clarity compared to a couple other lower-end binos that I have. The difference was crazy to me.

Where'd you end up buying from? The cabelas here in Yak doesn't stock them (store sucks) so I haven't had a chance to do any side by side comparisons

I bought them from a guy in the classified sections on Rokslide.
