When I was short on cash, I bought an older used Leupold Gold ring.  It has been on three different rifles of mine.  In fact I no longer own two of the rifles, but I still have the scope.  It's still one of the best scopes made for the money.  If you keep an eye on Craigslist or the Nickel ads, you will find one for a couple hundred more or less.  And they have (in my opinion) the best customer service out there.  Just something to consider.  I own a couple Nikons too, they are a decent glass as well, but if the price is the same for a new Nikon vs. a used Leupold, I'll buy the used Leupold every time.

I have four rifles with nikon scopes two have prostaffs (3x9) one has the buckmaster (3x9) and my 270 has the monarch (2.5x10) All fabulous scopes and I have never had any kind of problems with them.  One word of caution with the BDC reticle though is you can't aim very accurately  It would work better with dots than circles.  Circles are not very precise.  You will not be able to shoot small tight groups at long distances with it.  So if you are looking for a bullet drop type of reticle stick with the leupolds.  Just my :twocents:
