Darn domestic dogs!
« on: January 31, 2017, 12:49:53 PM »
I have a little feed station and trail cam setup in my yard. Every night for the last couple months, we have deer. Mostly does and a couple smaller bucks. The last couple weeks, nothing. Not even touching the feed. Finally figured it out. My neighbor's dog from across the field behind me has been snooping around. Caught him on the cam the other night. Any suggestions on keeping him away?

Talk to said neighbor, if that fails lead works great.
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Either option will probably go over like a fart in church. I thought about building a fence around it or moving it across the street to some landlocked public land. Not sure yet.

Just tell neighbor your going to serve a beverage of antifreeze :yike: at your feeder.  People should at least try to keep their dog on their property.

I get that and agree. It's only barbed wire and an alfalfa field that separates us. I know I'm complaining about dogs scaring the deer away but, it's difficult to ask some one to keep their dog locked up all the time. What am I saying...I have a fence for my dog that she doesn't get out of....

Yes we have a real fence as well.  My dog would bite others so I am responsible.  So should they.  Or don't have a dang dog.  If its rural farm country with scatters houses that would change my opinion some but still!  Pellet gun maybe?

Who are these people still letting their dogs run?

It's obnoxious and dangerous for the neighbors, good way to get your dog killed by a car, and a good way to ruin a dog. How hard is it to just put it in the kennel during the work day?

Paintball gun. Maybe the paint splotch will send them the hint to keep their darn dog on their own property.

Go talk to the owners and just let them know, and if they cant keep it under control, might have to call animal control, or the game warden if there going after wildlife  :dunno:

Most counties have rules about letting dogs run wild--off their own property--. Most say owners have to have some sort of control of their dogs at all times. Even if it's just voice control. That is what I was told in Yakima County by county deputy.

Yes, there's a few old timers that still say that. Hopefully they get shouted down quick. There are legal options that don't make everyone in your community hate you.
