Reloading 9mm and .40 S&W

I'm just beginning to load these rounds and would like some advice on loads.  I'm planning to use Bullseye powder and Remington brass, but haven't picked a bullet yet.  I'll also be using CCI small pistol primers.  I'm leaning towards jacketed hollow points, but I'm open to what others are using and recommend.  I've researched Speer, Hornady, and Nosler a little bit and can't quite decide.  Thanks for sharing.

Thats a pretty good choice of bullets and primers. I like hornady XTPs for self defense, I've always been partial to winchester brass and I don't care for for Bullseye. Its good powder but very dirty. For .40 I use N340, Vihtivouri (sp?)

Just curious, why do you perfer Winchester brass?  I have used Winchester brass for my rifle cartridges and perfer Remington.  I may have had a bad bag, but I had 5 or 6 rounds split above the neck while resizing a bag of Winchester.  I just chose to stay clear of it, but maybe I was doing something wrong.  I was resizing 25-06 and never had problems with Remington.  Thoughts?

Thanks for the heads up on Bullseye.  My reloading manual lists Bullseye as being one of the most accurate powders for both loads.  What grain bullets are you using in your .40?  I was looking 170-180.

I have a .40 load that is very reliable for my Beretta 96.  What are you shooting, and what is the barrel length?  Bullseye shooting or IPSC?

H&K Compact with a 3.58 inch barrel.  Bullseye and IPSC shooting, but primarily IPSC.  I'm OK if I need two completely different loads.

For the 9mm I use the 125 grain lead .356 diameter with 4.3 grains of Unique for target practice.  It burns dirty because of the lube on the lead and partly unique burns dirty. 

Sometimes I use the Magtech or Rainier lead safe bullets bulk from MidwayUSA, 124grain.  They are about $94 per 1000 + shipping.  with Winchester 231 , 4.5 grains it burns a little cleaner than the unique.

What brand are you using for your 125 grain bullet?  This is the weight I was planing to use, so it appears I'm heading in the right direction.

Winchester brass doesn't stretch the way Remington brass does. It takes longer to wear it out, and it seems to be more consistent. I have Winchester .45acp  brass which has been loaded dozen times, the Remington would never make it that long under heavy loads.

I haven't loaded enough rifle ammo to comment from experience, but people I have talked to have had the same experiences with Winchester rifle brass.

 I see a little talk about IPSC, If your shooting .40 for that game, use 180 grain bullets and stay away from Winchester 231. Its a great powder for .45acp but its to slow for .40, your loads will be all over the place (not consistent) and its tough to make major (temp affects)

For IPSC bullets and practice I loved Ranier Balistics copper washed. I've been out of the game for a couple of years, but I was VERY involved for about 10 years before that.

My .40s&w powder puff load

winchester sp primers; 180 xtp, 3.3 titegroup; oal 1.132

You will need lighter springs to get this load to function flawlessly, or just increase power until you are not getting any ftf's.

I had a stock pile of Red Line.  A company out of Oregon, they are normally at gun shows in Puyallup.  Speer has 125 grains too.  Off name brand are cheaper and I worry about the weight and not who makes it.
