hunting season standards
« on: October 07, 2007, 07:41:34 PM »
I have a full freezer, but not long in the woods.  I'm hopeing for a 170 class muley, or I might chase a few whities later.  ITS HORNS FOR ME THIS YEAR.

Shamelessly: First legal thing I see. I'd even take a doe  :IBCOOL: Can't eat horns.

By the way, that wasn't an option.

I have a freezer full of beef, so I am shooting for bone!  Even though I am betting my hunt this year on 2 1/2 days, I will still hold out for a 130+ whitie.  Tag soup aint so bad when you wrap it in beef.  BTW, my whitie option wasnt on the list either.

For deer it's all about the headgear, for elk I'll take a 1-1/2 year old cow and eat well all winter.

OKAY PB, I modified it a bit for you.  I'm with you, don't have much time to trophy hunt with this tag, but we'll see.

I will probably not do any hunting this year.  If I do it will only be a few days.  First legal anything I see is going in the freezer.

:chuckle: Though my husband suprised me yesterday on our way home from the store.  I been buggung him to death to let me buy a bow.  He finnaly broke down and told me he went to Olympic Archery a few days ago and gave Jamie a deposit and told him to give me what bow I wanted.  I am excited!

I want a nice buck this year, the freezer is already full so it needs to go on the wall if I am going to get it.  Hopefully a big ol muley, I'd take a big whitetail as well but it wouldn't be my first choice although I may have to get over there for the late buck to notch teh tag this year.

Ya, I googled buggung and got nothing either...    :chuckle:

As for me, I will shoot at the first legal buck within 300 yards of my barrel. If that doesnt work, I will go fill my doe tag later in the week. If that doesnt work, I may take up poaching.

Its always about the wall for me... every year! Every season!  I eat every scrap of meat I kill but I dont normally kill anything not worth the taxidermy bill and trust me...I know what its gonna cost to get stuffed long before I ever see it in the woods!!!

Does and cows are safe until the last day of season...then only spots or milk on the mouth will safe them! I always have a "sure thing" spot saved for emergency last days of the season! Ive got a BT doe fat and happy on a perfect schedule every day... she is hoping a nice 4x4 buck will mess up! LOL

4X4 mature whitetail for me this year or big 3 or 4x4 muley.
i still  haven't killed a nice mule deer, so thats my goal, but they're getting harder and harder to come by where i hunt. i got a pretty nice whitey in '05, so he'll have to beat that this year. if it comes down to the last day, i might kill me a meat buck...my freezer's empty because i ate my tag last year trying to find mr. big.

This is my first year archery hunting for deer, so I am just trying to get in on a kill.
I was holding out for a buck the first two weekends of early and missed two opportunities on a buck, that wouldn't turn his head, and a doe. I only have some mid week hunts for late season, so it's anything legal, empty freezer and looking for that first archery kill.

Its usually the 1st legal buck I see, but thats changing, going to have to be somewhat respectable this year no 3 or 4 point 17 inchers for me anymore, well I guess that was just last year.

Never shot a spike before, but this year I would as long as he's over 100#'s. If I don't tag out in Wa., I'll look for something mature, but not necessarily need to bag a trophy in Montana. Would like a buck or two for the freezer, been a while without.

Wasn't an option on their for me, since the bag limits here are crazy, 10 does and 2 bucks for bow, and 10 and 2 for shotgun and 10 and 2 for muzzleloader. I hunt to fill my freezer, can't eat the horns.

I'm looking for a 4X4 150 class Muley (or bigger). My 19 year old will be looking for the first legal buck we can find.
Best of luck to everyone!
