G20 or 40?

So Im sick of trashing my kimber super carry ultra + and want to switch to a 10mm for carry while archery hunting.  Just looking for input on choosing either the glock 20 or 40 mos.  Right now Im leaning towards the 40, I like the added fps out of the longer barrel and kinda like the idea of putting a red dot on it.  On the other hand I like the smaller size of the 20.  I will most likely be carrying it in a kenai chest holster. 

Any pros and cons that I missed or personal experience would be great.

I've never carried a G40 but the G20 is substantial and seems to be sufficient for anything we have around here. I do like the idea of a red dot on it but worrying about battery function and keeping the lens clear has swayed me from doing so.

Nothing wrong with either Glock. I had G20 for a while didn't really warm up to it but i also carry a Kimber mine is a Eclipse full size and instead of beating it up in the woods i bought a S&W model 69 44 mag and a chest holster.

I have a G20 and a G29... nothing wrong with a G29 if you're just looking for a defense gun.

Just a thought.  If you're carrying this while archery hunting, you might want the G20.  If you get the G40, and especially if you put the red-dot on it you might get some serious questions from WDFW enforcement officers as they may assume you're planning to actually hunt with it.

That thought never crossed my mind, would be kinda lame for an officer to just assume I am trying to break the rules but I guess they see dumber things on a regular basis.

The battery issue with a red dot was a concern of mine as well,  probably would be a little overkill, but I just hate glock sights and thought a red dot would make it fast to find its target and just plain fun.

G40, if you're going full size.  G29 if not.

G20, and if you decide you want optics later on you can go with a mount that slides into the rear sight dovetail (think Burris Fastfire), then toss in an after market 6' barrel ported barrel.

G40 with a trijicon rmr is what I went with. They have different rmr models so I went with the dual illumination one that doesn't require batteries. Nothing to turn on either, just point and shoot.

I picked up a G20 yesterday and I'm going to run 100 rnds through it this weekend. Perfect woods carry for Washington

I have a brand new unfired G20 Gen4 for sale if you're looking for one.  I'll have to look to be sure but I'm pretty sure it has the high capacity mags too.  PM me if you're interested.

I just went through this same process and am actually picking up the G20 from Lynnwood Gun today. Personally the G40 just felt to big and unbalanced when I held it. The G20 felt perfectly natural.

I've got a G20 (bought it just before they announced the 40 intending to build a longslide) and while I wish it was the G40 it does just fine as a packing gun.

Went out today and fondled both the g20 and g40.  I had seen the g40 but never handled one before today, thats alot of slide.  Still on the fence but kinda leaning further towards the 20 now.  My next question is gen3 or gen4?

I'm not a big Glock fan but when I wanted a serious woods gun for when the need arises with all of these freaks ut there doing the cooking of meth out in the wilderness my choice is the Glock 20 with the fifteen round magizine.
For any dangerous wild game my 44 magnum Redhawk suits my needs. If I don't hit the sweet spot in the first couple of shots my carcass would be torn up to much to empty the revolver
But with these meth camps people stumble across out in the wilderness the more shots you have at hand the better off you'll be in my honest opinion.
Plus 10 mm will get the job done any day of the week with the proper ammunition.
I love the Kimber 10mm, but you are down to eight rounds verses 15 plus one in the Glock 20. I'll take the awkward Glock for my personal safety any day of the week, plus it's a third of the cost of a decent Kimber.

No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't learn to love th Glocks. I had a G29 and a G20 for a while and I never got either one of them to shoot very well. Admittedly, I just don't shoot Glocks very well regardless of chambering. I ended up with a Dan Wesson CCBT and I loved it.

If you're happy with Glocks in general, I'd go with the G20 unless you plan to use it as a primary gun. It's easy to get carried away with the barrel length until you end up with a side arm that's just as big or bulky as your primary weapon.

A couple other options in the same price range would be the EAA Witness or the Rock Island 10mm.

Well I ended up buying my first glock this afternoon.  I chose the G40 and also got a trijicon rmr to put on it, cant wait to get it out.  one of many new purchases I made this winter and need to get out to the range.  Thanks for all the input and thanks pnwrider for mentioning the rmr.
