What works best in your 204 Ruger???
« on: February 14, 2017, 01:03:10 PM »
I did a trade deal on a like new CZ 527 Varmint 204 Ruger so I'm in need of some good recipes for a 204 Ruger and if you have a CZ 527 204, even better.  The only 20 cal bullets I have are the 55gr Bergers but those are being saved for my 204 Terminator build so I'm open to getting whatever bullet/s work best.  If any of you have loads that worked really well for your 204's using Hodgdon Benchmark and Fed. 205M's, all the better as I have a lots of both but at this point I'm open to whatever works best.

Until I'm geared up to reload I'll probably shoot Hornady Superformance factory ammo but which bullet weight do these things prefer, the 32's or the 40's??

I've not spent much time with a 204 so all information is appreciated.

I don't own a .204 anymore, but my buddy has shot one for almost 10 years now.  He has done a lot of experimenting with bullets and he has settled on the 39 grain sierra Blitzking on top of Varget.  I'm not sure on the powder charge, but as with any powder, start light and work your way up and find the sweet spot.  Good luck.  .204 is a fun little cartridge.

I have the 527 varmint and mine load is cci 450 primer, 27.5gr of benchmark with the 32 gr v-max.
shoots extremely good, my brother has the same gun and shoots the same for ground squirrels.

I had good luck with cfe223 and Hornady v-max in both 32 and 40 grain.  Are you anywhere near Tacoma?  I sold my 204 but I still have 45 40gr v-max and maybe a 1/4 pound of cfe223 as well as a bore snake and a modified case for setting seating depth. It's yours for free if we can meet somewhere close.

39 grain Blitzking / BLC(2) is a great combo.  A little over 4000 FPS out of my 24" barreled Cooper and deadly on coyotes.

Wow!  That's a h3ll of an offer and much appreciated but I probably couldn't be any further away from you and still be in the same state, but thank you for the offer.

I've probably got a couple lifetime supplys of Benchmark so hopefully I can find a load that works with that but I do have a few pounds of CFE223 on the shelf as well.
