Utter beginner looking for hunters to partner/learn with

Hello all,

I'm an utter novice--never hunted before but have recently got the hankering to learn the basics and get a firm foundation. I'm looking for any willing hunters of any stripe that'd be willing to take me along and help me get some experience, beginning with scouting and tracking any time in the spring. I can hang in and slog with the best of them, so I'd not be a burden, more like an apprentice!

I'm in Snohomish County, primarily interested in deer/elk but open to anything. PM me if you're willing to take me along or can at least point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I'm finishing Hunter Ed this week, and want to focus on rifle hunting. Sorry, should have put that in the original post!

I remember being a late 20s adult in hunters ed. Me and a bunch of 12 year olds! Good times.

Ha, yes, the class has a good mix, a lot of kids but adults, too. Better late than never!

If your gona hunt black tail buy the book Blacktail Trophy Tactics 2 by Boyd Iverson. Read it asap and get out in the woods now!

After season is a great time to get out because deer are still acting like they do in late season and the woods look similar.  Rifle hunting means you need to go find big timber to hunt so up in the woods for scouting.

The first thing to know about hunting in snohomish... is not to hunt is snohomish. You want to go further from town down hwy 9 or 2. Go either way until you stop seeing people. Then get out and walk a couple miles from the road. Do this early in the morning and right before dark until you start seeing Deer (find vantage points to look, walk very slow and silent etc.). Rinse and repeat until hunting season. If you start seeing Deer, watch a youtube video on how to clean it. Good luck!

I don't know....a few years ago I saw a pic of a buck a guy arrowed pretty close to town. It was a hog for sure. Now....is there plenty of area to find not that far away...yes. Just gotta find a nook or two. OP and I are scheduled for a brew soon....now that my go to banging rock method is blown I'll have to go to plan B.

I think it was about this time last year that I planned a local gathering.  When the date rolled around, I had the flu. If you're planning something h20, let me know!  I missed out last year (I think it was a Snohomish County bowhunter gathering, not that it matters!)

Hatch Jaw, some friendly words of advice for you: Don't be frustrated, either by the people you meet or the experiences your receive.  Hunting is a lifelong endeavor, truly 10 or 20 or 30 years in the making.  Take your time, enjoy yourself, learn from whomever/whenever you can.  Sincere wishes for a safe and happy hunting future!
