What's it worth
« on: February 16, 2017, 09:56:57 AM »
I got this thing in a trade years ago and planed on building a long range rig out of it. Never got around to it and I don't remember anything about it.  Times are tough right now and I need to sell it but I don't know what it's worth. I do remember the guy was very reluctant to trade it off but needed his truck fixed.
It needs a crown job for sure, barel has been tapped for what looks like a scope but it has leupold rings and mount. Looks like they may have made a mistake when tapping holes in the barrel and filled them :dunno: barrel is 26 1/4" measured from the face of the action. Trigger is very good!  Looks like a home made stock

Any ideas what this thing is worth or any info you can offer to help my research? Thanks for your time

a sporterized Mauser won't bring you much.  Usually $300-400 at the top end unless it's a well known maker.  The heavy barrel narrows your market more, but there could be a person out there that just HAS to have it.  The unfortunate stock carving and the botched drilling on the barrel don't do it any favors.  Any idea of round count?  What caliber?  what trigger?  single shot or does it have a magazine?  realistically I wouldn't expect to get to do much better than $300 unless the barrel is spectacular or it has a $300 trigger.  wartime Mausers aren't usually regarded as the platform to build long range tack drivers.  The thumb notch in the left sidewall reduces stiffness in the action unless pillared and bedded.

EDIT:  Ok, i see in the pics it does have a magazine triggerguard and double set trigger.  could be a nice unit.  Find the right buyer and $400 could happen.

It has a mag well but no spring or follower. Wooden box carved to fill the void and make it a single shot. It's a 22-250. Not sure the twist. Was bedded but poorly done. The more I check it out the more I wanna play with it. Heavy! About 15 1/2 lbs. no clue on the round count. I've never shot it.

to go along, when trying to decide value of a ww2 gun (or action) from Germany the year is typically important.  They were higher quality in the beginning.  Towards the end, many were made by forced labor and not to the same spec and possibly had flaws added into them to increase failure.

been trying to find that but every site I visit has not listed this action number or letter code. :dunno: what I'm doing wrong.  3535 with an "a" under it

300-600 in perfect condition/no added parts or carved pieces into it. I'd say probably no more than $125.

:yeah:  the serial number on the side won't tell you much.  you need to pull the scope mount to see the crest.  I THINK that appears to be an earlier waffenamt.  Later war the swastika was added under the eagle.  i can check my book when i get home.
