Are there any decent inexpensive trad bows?

I'm not looking to start hunting with a trad bow or anything, at least I don't think I am . Just looking for something to pack around so I can stump shoot while I scout. Any recommendations? Don't really want to spend a bunch of money. Not yet anyway.

I got a Bear Bruin II on ebay for about $100. I'm actually selling it if you're interested. I'll throw in the accessories + shooting gloves + arrows.

I bought an early 1960's 41# Bear Ranger bow off Ebay years ago for under $100 delivered. A little tuning and I really enjoy shooting it for a change of pace. Plus, its nothing fancy so if i happen to scuff it up a bit I wont be too upset.

I hear about  guys buying brand new Samich Sage bows all the time and they seem to be happy.

That Bear Bruin looks pretty nice. Whats the poundage on it?

toll classifieds and you can find some great used trad bows for a great price. I have bought at least 20-30 bows from craigslist and other classifieds. tradgang use to be great as well then they started charging to use the classifieds

Samick Sage always gets a couple recommendations in threads of this kind.

Stickbows built in the 60's -80's ( pre compound ) were extremely fine bows. Bear, Wing, Browning and many others built thousands of bows that shoot as good now as then did back then. If you would like to shoot before buying then visit Ted at Raptor Archery in Hood River OR. He runs a trad only shop and typically has hundreds of new and used bows in stock. He can also set you up with the right arrows and equipment. Arrows matched to the bow are extremely important - just as you cant shoot a.223 bullet out of a .270, trying to shoot arrows unmatched to the bow is an exercise in frustration.

I picked up a Samick Sage at the WAC show a year ago or so for another member's kid. It seemed like a pretty decent bow and I think I paid $100 for it.

I have an early Bear Kodiak that a friend who collects early Bear bows gave me (missing the brass emblem).  Shoots great and I think he said it was around $40 on eBay.  I need to get that out and start shooting it again ...

Making your own, as suggested is easy and fun and inexpensive. I bought kits for my sons for around $100 ea. Also Traditional Bowhunters of WA has bow rondys and shoots that are a fun weekend to see lots of bows new and used and buy something inexpensive. After making and shooting several I was amazed by a (Dan) Toelke Long bow at a rondy that a 16 yr old kid had. I ended up buying one and went to Dan's shop in Ronan, MT to pick it up. Awesome bow and great guy.
