Spring Bear-Monroe/N. Skagit
« on: February 20, 2017, 08:31:49 AM »
If you get drawn for these areas do the timber co. give you a map or area which they designated to be hunting area? Also in reg book it says to "secure" access before you put in for the hunt. I have seen on the forum a few places that if you are drawn, you attend a meeting/gathering to get keys ect. Any help would be great.

7018 North Skagit That portion of GMU 418 that is designated as the hunt area by
DNR, Sierra Pacific, WeyerhaeuserColumbia Timber Lands, and Grandy Lake Timber Company.

7019 Monroe That portion of GMU 448 that is designated as the hunt area by DNR and Campbell Global.

As for the monroe unit,  yes. Map and key or combo to locks.  Have not drawn other unit. I believe they still hold a meeting in mill Creek for monroe unit tag holders to provide info and hunt packets.

WDFW holds separate meetings for each area. They then give you a key or combo for the locks, along with maps that outline the hunting area.

However, there are no bears left in either of these units.

Plenty up north. Also, usually the big fellars come out of Skagit.

Nothing but scrawny little cubs in the Skagit. Don't waste your points there.    Monroe is where the monsters hang out.

Only got a few points, I doubt I will get drawn.
@saylean if I buy your book does it tell me where I can find all the bears that left that unit? ;)

The way it works is:
You buy both Sayleans books,
You use that info to find where the bears are,
When the season arrives you go to your spot and find Sayleans car parked at the gate and gut piles in the clear cut.   :chuckle:

If you look at the WDFW success rate page, Monroe has very low success rate. N Skagit is almost as bad. If I were you I would save some money and go to BC or Idaho for spring bear. I've drawn Monroe twice, spent more hours in the woods than I ever have before for any hunt. I've seen a total of 1 puny bear briefly in a nasty thicket. I saw plenty of sign, but no bears. I wont sit here and tell you that I'm the worlds greatest hunter, but I like to think that I'm a competant hunter so it wasn't that I didn't know how to hunt. Good luck with wherever you hunt, I look forward to reading your story and seeing some pic's.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

If drawn for Monroe or Skagit, are there any costs involved in obtaining the maps and lock keys/combos?
