Model 700? (60 Minutes Show)

A friend of mine called and caught a blurb on the 60 minutes show about a rifle model that was going of by itself.  She said she hadn't paid much attention and shifted channels.  So anybody out there catch 60 minutes and have some better details about what she is talking about?

Like others have said this is nothing new. I think in 2014 there was a documentary call Remington under Fire. A quick google search and it comes up. I thought they were worth watching.

The walker trigger Remington used is a great trigger as long as you keep them clean. X mark pro is crap. Throw is away and replace it with a timney. Problem solved.

This has been on going for a long time,and I will say it again this boils down to gun safety,always treat a firearm as if it was loaded,always point in a safe direction when loading,unloading,and taking the safety off,every one of these accidents could be avoided.

And what we will never know is how many of these problems were the result of people adjusting on them that either didn't know what they were doing or got them to light causing bump or slam fires.  I personally know of multiple people who either didn't know what they were doing or over adjusted the trigger in their Rem 700's and had them go off when they closed the bolt.  Of course you'll never hear anyone admit that though.

Had a couple nice classics in .257 and a mountain rifle in 30-06.  Got rid of every one of them a few years ago.  Irregardless of some instances of user problems, there were problems with the guns themselves.  Just didn't want to pass on any potential risk to my kids or grandkids.

This.  Just like the kid in this story.  He was obviously doing some pretty dumb stuff to even be able to be in the situation that led up to him shooting his brother.  But we are gonna pin it on the rifle. 

No doubt there is some sort of issue but if people would stop pointing their rifles at people when they have a hot weapon then people wouldn't get shot.

Muzzle control is obviously the most important factor here.  However, why take on the added risk of having an accident.  I do not own any Remington firearms, and honestly will steer clear of them due to this issue.  In fact my wife was so concerned after the show, she went and checked her guns to make sure they weren't Remington's. 

It would be like buying or driving a car that is known to have random instant loss of steering and braking issues...  How many here would take their chances in that situation?

I don't personally see it as enough of an issue to swear off Remington over... replace the trigger and safety and it's all better. Plus you would have made it better at the same time.

 I'll give 25 cents on the dollar for anyone wanting to get rid of their potentially problematic Model 700's.
