Utah Draw

Just a reminder that the deadline to put in for tags is 3/2 and the bonus point only deadline is 3/16.

This is my year to wait until the last day to apply  so next year I don't have to buy a license...

Where are you shooting for, Bearpaw?

I spent my 15 pts in 2015 on late Bookcliffs Bittercreek South.

Would be nice to draw the Books but I am not going to hold my breath.

I'm in. I have 15 points for deer & have a chance this year in the bonus point draw. Based on last's years odds, there will be 8 bonus point tags & 14 hunters with 15 points this year. Hopefully not any hunters with more points decide to apply to burn their points.

Fingers crossed.
Good Luck.

Half the tags are given in a random draw. Last year one person drew with 0 points & 5 hunters drew with only 2 points.  :bash:

Good Luck.  Apply apply apply!

i slchose hunts with decent odds so there is always a glance.

Do the points do anything in the random draw? Or just for guaranteed tags for highest point holders?

I think I read somewhere you get one entry per point in the random draw but I am not a 100% sure.

I have 8 points for elk & antelope & also focused on units with higher random draw odds.
Good luck.

First year putting in. Figured better late than never. I do have a question. If I only put in for limited entry deer can I still purchase a leftover general deer tag?

In for most all species with lots of points.  I probably have the best chance at an archery elk tag with 15 points.

This may help:

Understanding Utah Deer Hunt System:
1: General Season Deer Hunting:
The State is divided into ~30 units: Each Unit for the MOST part has 3 seasons: Archery, Mid-August, MuzzleLoader, Early September, and Rifle, mid to late October:
You have to apply for these tags by March. The odds of drawing are HIGH, most units can be drawn with 1 PREFERENCE POINTS, but some will require 2-3 points.
You are NOT guaranteed a tag if you get a certain number of points.
Pick a unit, put in for 1 of the 3 types of hunts, and enjoy hunting. Points do accumulate, and you will eventually, sooner than later draw. You can put in by yourself or in a group.

2: Limited Entry Deer Hunting:
Utah has some of the VERY best Mule Deer Hunting in the LE units. These tags are HARD to get, and will take years of applying.
Most of the units also have all 3 types of hunts: Archery, MuzzleLoader, and Rifle. Some of the best knows Utah LE Deer Hunts are: Henrys, Book Cliffs, Paunsaguant. There are several more.
This is a SEPARATE draw system, and you must put in for a LE tag, or point to accumulate points, or to hunt these units. Keep in mind most units will take at least 10 points to draw, and some will take 20+ points.
You can put in for the draw, or just buy points. This also must be done by March.

Summary:
There are 2 Deer Draw systems in Utah. 1 for General Season deer hunts, and 1 for the LE very high quality deer units.
You must apply for both to build points in both.
General Season units are easier to draw.
LE Units are very hard to draw and will take many years.
Good luck, and happy Hunting.
