WA goat auction tag
« on: February 25, 2017, 07:04:00 PM »
The goat tag is up for auction tonight.  Any guesses what it goes for?  I will go with $27K.

For reference, it went for $34K, 26K, 15.5K, 13K and 10K the last five years.

Any idea why the amount sold for has been declining?

Sorry, should have clarified the years. $34K was last year.  It's gone through the roof the last couple years.  Before that, it had been in the $8K - $15K range.

Pretty crazy, for that amount you can get a trophy hunt in AK with a good chance at a 50"+ billy and still have enough left over for an Africa plains game hunt.

The guys that are buying these tags aren't buying them for the value. And they're probably doing all those other hunts you mentioned as well.

@Bushcraft Did you make a run at this one?

Yes. It went 10, 15, 18, 20 and then got quiet with John asking for more bids.  I thought maybe 21 would get it this year from some of the things I'd heard so I bid. And then it popped up to 24.  More than I wanted to lay out given some of the other hunts this year. Oh well...there's always next year if the raffle doesn't pan out again.

Regardless, SCI raised some more money again for mountain goats and we are going to need it given some of the BIG projects that are in the works.   More on that later as some of the planning gets get closer to completion. Keep your ears open for another fun boot leather survey this summer, probably in the Alpine Lakes...hopefully in the Enhancements if we can get the permits.

  Thanks, I was thinking you might go $24K.  The good news is that they were able to get some more money for conservation and you still have a chance at the raffles.

Absolutely!  Except for the part when I had to get up in front of the crowd and give a little speech while introducing the legislators, I had a great time. So many awesome people in the room that are passionate about protecting hunting rights and wildlife conservation!

Thanks to all the hunting orgs and members who make the orgs work, without them hunting may not exist in Washington.  :hello:

The year it went for 13 I brought 10 to buy it.  Good thing I didn't, I got my Dall sheep a few years later.  Maybe some day but at these prices you can buy an amazing BC hunt for half that.  But there are definitely some fun advantages to this hunt.

I would be very surprised if we seen it drop below 20K for some time, to many people on the waiting list to get there hands on that tag, lots of hip....
