i think the best all around grouse gun is a bockbuchesflinte..... uh i mean a rifle over shotgun the savage 22over 20 is really populart.

hell, i've never seen .410 cheaper than any 12 or 20.  16, 28 and .410 all seem to usually cost about the same, about double what 12 or 20 gauge loads usually run.

It depends on what you buy and where. I've got a couple of boxes of .410 shells and that'll probably last me the rest of my life, since I do most of my bird hunting with a 12 or 20.

And .22 Long Rifle?  I have a few bricks of the stuff, so I'll have plenty.

Do like I always advise people to do when I write about this stuff:  Look for the "lost leader" ads from sporting goods stores; the stuff they put on sale just to get people through the door. Impulse shopping can clean out a wallet in no time and these guys know it.

But, if you go in with the single purpose of buying just shotgun shells for $4 a box or whatever, then you score! 
Generally, these are No 5, 6 and 7 1/2, so you can't hardly go wrong.

I like to use a 20ga or a 410. 12's are a bit hard on them IMO. Here's a weekends worth. We used our little single shot 410's. That was a great weekend.

It was a 2 day limit of 12 total (6 each). I was in unit 121 a few years back. We were really bear hunting but the grouse were so thick we chased them for a couple of days instead.

I don't know of anyone being cited for using a slingshot (or sticks or stones), but I've been told by more than one enforcement officer that they could be.

Yeah I would think they would have bigger and more important problems to deal with than somebody killing a grouse with a slingshot.

Ah, but this isn't about "game management" it's about "people management" 

And BTW: With the agency needing every penny it can scrape up...from fees or FINES...if someone can violate ya, they're going to violate ya.
