Videos question

How do you all feel about the video settings on your cameras? Last year was my first year running trail cams and I love it now I got some great pictures of some good bucks and was kind of interested in trying out the video setting on it but not sure if it's a worth it for me. Where my cameras go is about 6 hours from home so I can't constantly check them so I'm wondering if this drains the batteries quickly and we have range cows where I hunt and a good chance of a handfull of them coming through and setting it off. Just interested in your guys opinions. Thank you!

Videos take up more space on the SD cards...keep that in mind. I accidentally left one of mine in video mode once. Got about 1k 10 second videos. Some are really cool. 90% of them are garbage.

One other thing I just thought of. They don't light up in the dark. At least mine don't. So lots and lots of black screen 10 second videos.

That one when that young buck falls over is great! I saw one like that this past fall he was making his way up a steep ridge and tried to climb onto this rock ledge, he fell pretty far.

I set all mine on video, can always pull a still from the vid. Setting for pics only you'll miss some really cool stuff. Downside is, batteries drain faster, SD fills up faster(I use 32's) and set mine at 20second videos every 30sec-2 minutes depending on location. A 32g card will hold about 1200 videos at this setting.

I wouldn't worry about a handful of longtails on 10 second videos. In my experience Videos have their time and place. If its an open area, pictures will do just fine. However, when i set up a cam on a trail i will often use the video because with a picture you may only get one animal in the frame. Often times like during the rut you will get a picture of a doe and during the delay time, even if its only a few seconds the buck will walk by and you wont get a picture of it. Just my

I'd only use video if you have another one nearby to take pictures. My buddy failed and set up video by mistake and got nothing but moving branches. Lol
