35 whelen re-bore
« on: March 05, 2017, 10:56:25 PM »
Hi All,

I have my gunsmith working on an old 30-06 rifle for me to re-bore to 35 Whelen.  It was already worked on years ago by a gunsmith, and shot beautifully as an -06.  But I never use it anymore due to my 7mm long range setup.  Regarding the 35 Whelen I plan to shoot mostly the 250 Nosler partitions.  But beyond that, does anybody have any experience with the Woodleigh 310 grains?  My  rifle will be 1/14 twist after the rebore so should stabilize the bigger stuff just fine.

Honestly I don't reload due to the great factory loads normally, but may as I have a bunch of old -06 brass and a buddy who has a machine shop and a serious reloading setup. If I want to reload I just go to his house for a "reload party" and bring my preferred cases, bullets, and powder (he has everything else).

Thanks,

Keith

Woodleigh 310g – Looking for a Cape buffalo round?  Never used them but they sound painful.

Speer 225g trophy bonded bear claws cut through elk & bear like butter.  The 35 Whelen is a great round, it will serve you well.

I have some of the 225g bear claws on order to try as well.  The 310g woodleighs would be to carry on an Alaska hunt I'm hoping to do in the next year or so.  Also contemplating a British Columbia hunt.  Not a fan of grizzlies.  :-)

The 225 grainers would be plenty for everything in Alaska including bears. 310 grains seems like a lot of bullet.
