Got my stump banded and made a bending fork for straighting coil spring

Neat stuff jasnt.  It seems like a fun hobby.  I am slowly gathering parts and pieces to get into the game.  First off I have to teach myself to weld.  Just picked up a little Lincoln 140C and am wiring up my garage for some 220 and a couple dedicated 110 circuits.

I like the idea of just mounting my portaband to it rather than taking up more space with a dedicated band saw at this time.

Put a hardy in my "anvil" and got another bending fork done. Also first chisel to clean up the hardy. First hidden tang. Wip

For the last few years our immediate family has exchanged homemade gifts for Christmas. I made my daughter a purse hanger. (to hang purse off of bar or table)

 Eight layer Damascus billet was made using 1095 and 15N20 steel.

I drilled about 1/3 of the way into billet to give it a rain drop or circular effect.  I used a butane torch to give it some color.
She loves turtles, I hope she likes it.

Been busy myself.

I got bored and decided to lite my forge and heat my shop last week.  Figured I would save some money on Christmas presents an make my own. 

I started with a coil off a 69' chevy nova, cut off a chunk threw it in the forge and started pounding.I did a heat treat in oil, and tempered them in the oven,  A trip to home Depot for $5.00 worth of walnut and some epoxy.  Three knives for just under $12.00.

Yesterday I made a wider bottom fuller

Got some work done today. Finished drifting my soft hammer. Fits the handles ok after a quick touch up with the rasp. 

 

I finially finished the hot cut I made at class.

Started straighting some coil and decided to make some hot punches and a small fuller punch. Then figured I may as well make some punch tongs.   Radiused the edges on the bottom swage and made my first rivet with it. Also made the rivet for the tongs
