Older Mercury outboard jet pump
« on: March 15, 2017, 10:18:36 AM »
I have an old runabout, 1958 Pacific mariner, in pretty good shape and a 50 horse mercury that is getting built for it.

If I have it my way, it should be rediculously fast and probably dangerous

However, I stumbled across a jet pump for that 50 HP Merc and should dial the horsepower down to about 35-40 horse

Probably will be a bit safer at lower speeds

Anyway,

Anybody have any experience with those Merc jet drives?

My motor is a 1985 so, not too new

An old pump on an old merc will be more like a 25hp.

If that boat isnt designed for a jet, you'll likely have lousy performance.   Youll also probably need a jack plate to raise the motor.

The pump assemblies are all made by outboard jets, parts are readily available.   Unless you want to play in the rivers, id stick with the prop.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

That.
I'm curious why you'd put a jet on a fiberglass runabout.

Just for fun😁

My guess is it wont work out at all. Be better off with a 25hp prop.
