This scope unfair advantage or what?
« on: June 07, 2017, 08:11:34 AM »
Is this scope unfair to wildlife,is it cheating, how do you feel about it being used for hunting.

I know these have been out for a while , but is it fair to wildlife, fair to other hunters,is it fair chase?

Also the first YouTube there it pulls the trigger for you after you tag the animal With the scope retical , then when your scope lines up it pulls the trigger for you ,if there's a malfunction of the product this could be a safety issue also. This scope is about one step away from a laser guarded 50 bmg or something.

If a hunter has ethical issues with using such a scope then he/she should chose to use something else.

I don't have a problem with it (Burris Eliminator).  Means more precision shooting, and less wounding of game (for those that throw lead when they see an animal).  You can get to the same place with a rangefinder, and a good drop chart with dials.  Also, in the case of the burris, you still have to input good data, and shoot ranges to get it to work properly, it just ranges and dials for you (so to speak)   This just means you have to pack less gear, and are a little faster.  Though they look hideous, and are extremely heavy.

If you think the burris is unethical then how do you feel about laser rangefinders?

The other one, with the trigger seems like it could malfunction and send bullets off into the atmosphere since it fires the gun for you.  Not sure how I feel about that, also I think it would take a lot of joy out of shooting and or hunting.  It definitely would not be for me.

*Edit to add, also could cause an unsafe condition if you have a target designated, and a cease fire is called (say at a range, and as you're putting your gun down or moving it, it crosses the target and fires...)  Basically I don't like that the gun now controls when it goes off.

It may probably would have appeal to gadgeteers and in my years of selling hunting gear and firearms gadgeteers are particularly inefficient at closing the deal.  In the years I ran a large hunting/shooting counter I cannot remember those who were fascinated by gadgetry ever having any success stories.  I remember being bored beyond belief as they expounded on the theory behind why their latest acquisition was going to revolutionize hunting, but if any of them ever actually spent serious time in the field hunting it was a well kept secret.

Have at it, not for me though.

Lining up the scope and pulling the trigger is the easy part.

I say it should be up to the user and not a bunch of internet forum/countermonkey ethics experts

But that's just me

I so love walking into a gunshop , cup of coffee in tow and listening to the "Counter Monkeys" spew their nonsense. The whole time thinking is it the fault of the customer that they purchased a Tikka or the fault of the counter clown that pitched the over priced trinket? Hmmmmmmm ever heard of Sako? Maybe Tikka should come out with a "TRD" fan club model.💩

Their "Ethics" rhetoric is almost amusing.☠️

I was in one the other day and the guys were telling customers that fluted barrels and muzzlebrakes were just for looks, while they were trying to sell a guy on a carbon wrap barrel.
 :dunno:

You can discount the advice of "counter monkeys" but ya' know I did not hire those who sugested:

"5 rounds from a AR faster than some shmuck can say U-N E-T-H-I-C-A-L!

Deads, dead. I can care less if he has one hole or five through the ribs, who cares. It hits the BBQ just the same."

IDK but under my tutelage our customers were advised to buy ammo and spend time at the range shooting from positions they expect to shoot from in the field.

I am really sorry that your  time spent behind a gun counter you did not have a guy who understood what was going through your mind  and could not articulate that you need to understand something and you never got beyond:

"5 rounds from a AR is faster than some shmuck can say U-N E-T-H-I-C-A-L!

Deads, dead. I can care less if he has one hole or five through the ribs, who cares. It hits the BBQ just the same.

Sure Bang-Flops are cool! With on a moving running shot in the thick timber, I like to stick it to them.'

But we actually did have people who wanted to analyze the customer's situation and give them HELPFUL advice.

Deads dead. One from a 450 Ultra Mag, 5 from a AR, or a good square hit with a 2500HD at 50mph.

Tag hangs the same.😊 I have no problem with any of the three.

I think the hunting ethics thing is a lot like politics. You have a certain section of society that feels the need to force their views on everyone else.

And then you have the rest of us.

I rarely disagree with you, but your a bit off this time. You'll have a heck of a time hanging your tag on anything hit by a 2500HD at 50mph.  :twocents: :chuckle:

Why the heck would I let a scope pull the trigger for me? Thats the best part!
All this hideous scope does is self dial turrets. Which is nifty, but I wouldn't bet my hunt on it.
Self adjusting scopes and driverless cars...., its the beginning of the end I tell ya  :peep:

 :yeah:
Its a snow flake scope. Everyone wants things done "for" them, they want it done now and they want it done easy. People are using their God given tools less and less and relying on technology more and more. Ill still teach my kid to range with a duplex reticle and if he's lucky, I may let him use Mil Dots.
