Never shot the 9mm compact, but I sold my full-size .40 M&P because it was too picky on which ammo it like to make go off, and Smith and Wesson said the firing pin was within spec. Got my XD now and love it.

I have a 40 M&P and love it, never had an issue. Before I bought it all the articles I read about it stated that S&W finally got something worth buying. I also have a stainess 7 shot 357 S&W with a 6.5" barrel that I really like.

Forgot to mention one of my buddies has the compact in 40 and loves it. He even reloads for it and doesn't have any issues. I like the full size better because it fits my hand better and has larger mags. Mine came with 4 when I bought it last year.

I had about a half a box of Sellier & Bellot, a handful of winchester, and even a couple Hydra-Shoks that did not fire in my M&P. That was enough to make me not want to rely on it anymore. S&W had my pistol back, they said it was fine and maybe it was because the S&B ammo wasn't made in the US. My XD doesn't have a problem making it go bang...

Hmmmmmm, thanks to both. I really like the Sub, but I have big hands and it does feel just a tad small in the grip.....but, just that much more concealable when in the sub size....maybe I worry too much... :dunno:

Anyone else have any goods or bads on the gun?

Why shouldnt I buy it?  What else should I consider in a compact 9mm?

I hear ya, but I qualified so many times with an auto, I feel comfortable with them, as do all law enforcement across the land anymore. I can clear in seconds, still think the auto is way to go, just gotta pick one a bit more concealable with some umpf.

Check out the XD... the sub-compact (3") comes with both a full size mag (16 rds. in 9mm) with a grip extension, and a compact mag (12 rds. I believe)... so, you can make it a full-size grip by using the 16 rd mag and the extension... or you can keep it nice and compact by using the 12 rd. mag.

I have very large hands too... and the standard grip fits me quite well. I've run all kinds of ammo through mine (4" Service 9mm)... reloads, WWB, S&B, Rem, Hydrashocks, etc... it has never failed to go bang, or eject, or load. I shot the M&P and for some reason consistently shot it low/left, I think it was a grip issue. Anyway... at least give it a shot.

Ice did you look at 40sw intead of 9mm? I believe the last thing I read was 60% of Law Enforcement currently use it and I'm sure it has went up percent wise?

I just bought an MP Pro 9mm and I love it. It does not cycle the UMC cheap ammo well.

My buddy bought the MP 40 and he loves it. It has not had any problems.

I know you asked about a compact but I already have a G27 so this fit another need for me.

I will be looking for a few more days....   unless I cave and plop down the cash. I like the xd too, even like the ruger for some reason....   As far as 40 vs 9mm, I know both, but 9 works, and a bit cheaper to screw off with.

I feel lucky not being completely committed to any one....

Any other ideas?

go buy a HK p2000 or p30 in 9mm. an absolute rock solid gun that you can not jam and will eat any thing you put in it for ammo. i carry a p2000 in 40cal and that's about all i carry. unless i get the itch to throw on the shoulder holster and tote my TRP around. seriosly look into the p2000 its already a compact but it also comes in a sub compact. if you have big hands like me the compact fits great and is easy to conceal. i can give you the name of the guy that made my IWB holster also, you cant tell im wearing a gun even with a light T shirt on

I have had my M&P 40 FS for some time.  I feed it mostly cheaper loads but also the defense rounds and it has been perfect.  I clean it, keep it oiled and clean, etc...  I tried almost everything and the M&P fit the best in my hand.  I have had no reliability issues at all through maybe 500 rounds.

That being said I would see which guns fit first then decide.  I initially wanted an XD but they were just not right in my hand.  No knock on the XD or any brand.  I just went with the one felt the best then researched a bit.  I'm happy with my .40.
