Pressure washing hides for salting.
« on: October 09, 2007, 11:12:23 AM »
Just wondering if any of you that do your own taxidermy or any taxidermist that are on this site pressure wash you hides before you salt instead of fleshing with a draw knife or wheel. I'd be willing to try and do a little write up on how its done or even show you how its done if anyone is interested. Its so much easier , and you turn out a nicer looking product for the tannery or yourself. Anyway let me know if your interested. I'm only 20 minutes or so from Olympia if you want see how  its done in person.

I use a Karcher 4000 psi. Its got the honda 13 horse motor. You dont need one that big, 2600 wouls work ok.

I just saw someone do this on a couple african capes and an elk cape.  Works real well.  Not completely sold on it yet though.  I will see what kinda work it does to a cape when I get my elk cape back from the tanner.

This sounds interesting. Can I go down to the local carwash and use the pressure washer down there on the rinse cycle?  Thanks, Scott

I would like to see how it works also, but I am a long way from you. Can you do a write up with pics  :dunno:. I could run out 1 day of the sportsman's show in the early morning.

Thanks Brandon

I used a pressure washer for fleshing on all my coyote hides prior to stretching last year. It's pretty slick!! Just wear some raingear. If you can take BL up on his offer.

I would certainly love to see this done. At least do it here on this forum as a tutorial with pictures.

Sorry I havent gotten back . Been buisy the past couple days  ;) Ive got some capes (stock)  in the freezaer that I need to get done so I can show anyone that wants to see it done. Its better if you see it done than just pictures , plus I cant take pictures while Im pressure washing anyway  :chuckle: And yes , rain gear is a must . I can do deer capes without getting wet but bigger stuff is pretty brutal  ;)
If I can get a "photographer " lined up one of these days I will do a tutorial.

I am sure you can find a photographer on here to help out.

I am no photographer but if you have a camera i can take pictures, and would be willing to give a hand.
