Shout out to Humminbird!
« on: March 22, 2017, 09:24:05 PM »
Just wanted to put in a good word for Humminbird,

Side by side, after two dunkings in salt water for a couple days each time... the Humminbird is still working and both of the Lowrances went to Davey Jones' locker.

The only negative I have to say about Humminbird is that they won't verify what non-H accessories, like a fuel flow meter, will work on their NMEA 2000 network.

I also had great customer service on a free transducer upgrade when I purchased this one.

So what happened to cause the dunkings?

So what happened to cause the dunkings?

First one the wind shifted from south at 15 mph to west at 55-60 and the boat swamped and rolled with 5+ foot waves coming over the stern. The cause of the second submergence is still unknown as it rolled onto its side tied to the dock in the marina for two weeks with no rain and no leaks.   :dunno:

The "submersible" Cobra radio appears to not have completely survived either, it turns on but does not display the channel numbers. I don't have it attached to an antenna, but I would not think that would make a difference for the display.

My Safety Hauler pot puller rigging, solenoid and breaker, also still work, though it would be nice if these companies used stainless nuts on things that are designed to be used in salt water.
