Domestic Rabbits
« on: March 27, 2017, 01:29:00 PM »
On Friday during the WCO class here in Spokane that I attended.  The subject of feral domestic rabbits popped up and the gentleman teaching the class said that WCOs are not allowed to trap them.  I did not ask him for clarification, but I'm assuming he meant the WCO certification does not authorize it, because that is just for wild animals.  However since domestic rabbits do not fall under the jurisdiction of the WDFW, I am assuming anyone can trap them, including a WCO, just not under the authority of the WCO certification....correct?...thoughts?

Correct.  Domestic and feral domestic are not under Department authority unless also listed as a deleterious exotic.  There is always a slight chance someone nearby may claim ownership, which can get a little tricky.  In reality you are pretty safe from repercussions if you have landowner permission to remove rabbits, or on public land not immediately adjacent to some bunny huggers home.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
