Don't know much about cameras but would like to find a good video camera for hunting besides a GoPro, want to find something with zoom and good video quality so I need advice pointing me in the right direction.

Check out the Sony HX400v. I bought it after watching a video on youtube by altitude outdoors. Its a camera they recommended in this video.

There are many choices depending on your budget.  Perhaps stating your budget so that it will be easier to narrow down the options.

I have heard positive feedback on the panasonic fz series.  But I don't know how good the auto focus is on the fz.  The only thing I like to point out is if you are self video taping your own hunt, I suggest getting a camera/camcorder with good auto focus.   With 400 budget, I suggest looking at the canon, sony or panasonic camcorders with 50X (optical) plus zoom.  Also get one that you can set the white balance (not using auto white balance).  In this price range, you probably won't get one with 4K, if you are thinking about it.  1080p at 60 fps is good enough.

I suggest canon HF R800 or panasonic HC-V380K as a starting point.

Look at the Canon SX 60, 85x zoom and better low light performance than the Sony.

I bought a Canon sx260 after Scotsman posted some pics with his and I bugged him with questions . I posted a video I made in the elk forum if you want to see how the picture is.  Not bad for $200.

Whatever brand you decide on, just be sure it shoots RAW, then be sure to use it that way, it makes editing during post processing much more effective. :twocents:

I picked up a Panasonic Lumix ZS-50 this year. Love it, its compact and has a great zoom lens. Was Consumer Reports top camera. Mine was just a little over $400. Lots of special features i.e. remote control thru you phone if you don't want to use the timer plus it shows thru your I phone what the picture will be. Can transfer images from camera to phone. More options than I will use. :twocents:

I bought this one for my wife since she wanted a super-zoom and video for the kids sports when I am not taking photos.  It does pretty decent video and photos, and is o.k. in low light.  Make sure you check GreenToe if you are online shopping.  I have picked up some good bargains in the past.
