New to Washington State Looking for Bow hunting Partner
« on: October 16, 2016, 06:30:50 PM »
I am new to Washington State, transplant being in the military, and I am also new to hunting. I got my tag for archery deer and went out for early season but came up empty handed due to not knowing the area. I am willing to go anywhere in the state for a full weekend trip. I have put 40+ mile on the ground through a wildlife area east of Conconully but it was by myself and was looking to get with someone for late season. I don't have a preference on what kind of deer but I am very fit and ready to put miles in if you will have me along. I am located in Mount Vernon area.

Make sure to hit up Silver Arrow Bowman  Archery club. In Mount Vernon. May not find you a hunting partner this late in the game but some good folks and shooting practice
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I already am a member of the club just haven't met anyone there that is willing to take me out. I did meet one person and shot the 3D course with him and he said I was pretty good for only having a year of practice. Also he was the one who told me to look up this website and put an ad out there to see if I could get anyone. I just want to know if anyone is heading out during late season for archery which I don't think is that late now as you mentioned since modern firearms season has just started this weekend.

There are 2 online references id use to find places to hunt.
http://www.skagitcounty.net/Maps/iMap/?mapid=2b61bc759ac34c8596b266e75f7857e7
http://apps.wdfw.wa.gov/gohunt/

Between these 2 sites you should be able to find public land as a start and be able to make contacts on private parcels. I can tell you that i have seen more deer "Close In"  compared to out in the hills. Its just more challenging to get access.

Late to the post, how'd you do this late season?
Well, I didn't drive 13 hours just to shoot once!

I saw deer but came up empty handed. I must really suck at this thing called hunting. I hear experience is supposed to be handed down but doing it yourself usually end up like me. Might just give up bow hunting because being able to reach with a rifle I just might have a freezer full of meat.

Gun hunting is guaranteed either though. You won't get an animal every year. Don't get discouraged. If you live bow hunting stick with it. It only your first year. Scout this year and find some spots where beaten down trails intersect.

I'm also new here and was recently stationed here from Hawaii. Planning to start bowhunting since it seems to be more of a thrill than just using a rifle.  Plus the required practice gives me plenty to do during the summer.  I am hoping to get out there and hunt if I feel confident with my shot by the time the season comes around.  I hear NASWI opens up the land around the base for hunting.  Bow hunting only so I'm hoping to get in on that if it's still available this year.  I'm pretty sure they would prefer the land to be hunted to prevent a deer from getting too close to the runways any way they can.  I would like to possible hunt with some guys but only after I am confident with the shooting.  I'll more than likely join the archery club if I can and hope to run into some of you guys out there.

I have applied for multi season deer and elk this season, so hopefully I get picked up and can hunt the entire season. I want to stick with bow but the multi season will give me more flexibility. I have no problem going with people but I am serious about going out and getting things done. I have already been looking for areas for both elk and deer. I will be doing scouting if people are up to join, but I am going with or without company. Also this is my last season that I know I will be here for because my rotation back to sea is in '18 and don't really know if I'll get to stay in the area. So if you are serious about this pm me or let's meet for coffee or beer if you drink and get a plan together. Let me know.
