Freezing Wild Turkey

Who does it?  Any specific route? 

I'm thinking I'll cut up the drumsticks, breast, and stock bones/meat and vacuum seal them separately.  Any other ideas?

Never had to freeze them before because I typically used to eat them when I got home.  My how things change

I done it.  I made sure the bird was clean and dry.  I put it in a mid sized garbage bag, the toss it in the freezer.  Seem to taste fine, and I don't remember and extra bathroom runs

I got a fall bird on a camping trip a couple of years back.  I cleaned it and put it in a garbage bag in the freezer of the trailer.  A couple of days latter we came home and some of the leg meat had that "waxy" freezer burn look to it already.  I ground the bird up and the meat was excellent, just not enough of it!  I have since purchased a vacuum sealer that works off 12 volt also, just for these occasions.

I fillet the breast meat out.  I am not much into the drum sticks.  I vacuum sealed my fall one up and still in the freezer.  It still looks good.

Fillet the breast and I the vacuum pack. All other meat goes in the crock pot with chicken stock until the meat falls off the bones. I then clean and vacuum pack that and use for soup. Makes great soup.

I prefer to fillet the breast and freeze double bagged in ziplocks, I like to cut the breast into small pieces and fry (Turkey McNuggets) with lots of Johnny's Season Salt. Another great way to eat the nuggets is with Panda Express Orange Sauce and rice.

I freeze the legs and thighs in a different ziplock, I like to slow cook them until they fall off the bone, that's the best way I've found to cook them. (easier to pick out for all the small bones from the tenderized leg meat)

I've done exactly what Dale said and it works great.  The Turkey McNuggets are awesome.  I will also roast the whole thing in the crock pot and then vacuum seal the cleaned meat.  Wild turkey divan is fantastic.

I have double plastic wrapped and froze turkeys for years (over 60 birds) and never lost one yet.  Still just as good as fresh :tup:

I do what Al does.  I pluck them which protects the meat.  Wrap in seran wrap, wrap in some news paper. Tape it shut. Venison sausage stuffing, roast it, mostly eat the breast meat with gravy made with venison stock which is awesome.   Crock the rest for soup and enchiladas or whatever.  Roasting is the only way to make the soup taste good.
