GO BUY YOUR SILENCERS NOW!
« on: April 07, 2017, 11:27:58 AM »
I keep hearing everyone saying they are waiting for the HPA to pass before they will go buy their silencers. I'm telling you now to buy them now instead of later. couple reasons:

1. The silencer companies are the ones helping push the bill through, support them.

2. Silencer Co. is offering $200 rebates right now if you buy one of their silencers. So not only for now does it make the tax stamp a wash. When you get your $200 back when the bill does pass you basically got PAID to have their stuff! shirts, sweatshirts, hats and accessories for your silencer.

3. Supply and demand. If you buy one now you are basically holding your place in line. When the bill passes you just go pick yours up, you've already paid for it, its yours. however if you wait there will be a mass shortage of silencers for a while till the manufactures get caught up and prices will go up! so technically you might have to wait LONGER if you don't buy one now or pay more money.

4.The paperwork everyone complains about is actually only 3 signatures if you go to a full service shop. Pay your money for the silencer, they do all the paperwork, you get fingerprinted, photo taken and write a check. its super easy.

So if your going to buy one anyways I highly suggest you do it now and support the gun culture as a whole to get our rights back.

P.S. I know suppressor is the correct technical term, but the original patent form 1921 is for a "silencer". If you want to say suppressor for technical reasons by all means go for it. But I refuse to do it to be PC cause snowflakes find "silencer" to be a scary term so   :tung:

It's a long wait for a suppressor, it's an even longer wait for our congress to actually do something besides talk.

Average wait is 9 months at the moment. Congress probably wont pass the HPA till next year. IF they happen to pass it early, you're first in line to pick yours up.

I had not seen that you get your 200.00 back? if you have paid for a tax stamp in the past. Is that correct?

"This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to: (1) eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers, and (2) treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act with respect to such silencer. Any person who pays a transfer tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015, may receive a refund of such tax. "

Thought I read you would get it as a tax credit when filing your tax return. To me it's a sunk cost so I'm not too concerned if I never see that money again. I knew the cost when I ordered my cans. Not gonna complain if I get it back though!!!

Edit: cp beat me to it.

Mongo Hunter is spot on, if you are interested in getting a suppressor, do it now, do not wait.

In all honesty, as much as I'd love to be wrong, the chances of the HPA getting pushed through and passing are VERY slim to none.

None the less Silencer Co. is offering $200 rebates to use on their web sight. anyone who owns or read up on silencers knows theres all sorts of adapters, O rings, spacers ect. that you can buy. so even if you don't get your $200 back from the feds you still break even.

Not that I wouldn't love to get a $600 refund but I bet we all would agree to forego the refund part of the HPA Bill if that meant it would get passed.

I'm optimistic it will pass...just not this year. I think its more likely to pass than repealing the NFA all together and getting SBR's and SBS's off the list. Silencers are not firearms, they are at best small fancy mufflers. last I checked I don't need to wait 9 months and get a $200 tax stamp to put a muffler on my truck.

I shouldn't even need to buy one like a firearm and do a background check. I should be able to buy one like any other firearms accessory. in fact ALL guns should come with one. I can pretty much guarantee I've done damage to my hearing from years of hunting with no earpro.

Yep I hope it does pass at some point to and I can deal them with out all the extra licenses. I am always looking at dealer prices on them listed on my wholesalers and I can tell you  I have all I need, but I would own at least 2-3 more if it passed. Plus there would be some great deals for HW guys :IBCOOL:

I've been stuck at 4 for a awhile. I don't need a handgun suppressor but if I could just order one I would have to get a couple :chuckle:

Agree 100% with both of these comments.

Honestly I feel like the HPA doesn't go far enough; suppressors should be de-regulated entirely and treated just like mufflers on a car or anything else.

Well I think a lot of what we WONT get the next 4 years in regards to gun rights being restored is because of the NRA.

I know I know they have done A LOT for guns and are one of the loudest voices we have. but I have started to notice the NRA compromising and I'm not pleased with that. I'm starting to think the NRA is acting like any other political group and are content letting the war on the 2nd amendment continue so they can stay employed.

and the gun community is its own worst enemy but that's another rant  :chuckle:

LET THE FLAME WAR BEGIN  :hello: :chuckle:

My chief LEO doesn't sign off on them so I would have to start a gun trust to go around him. That's where a lot of the paper work woes stem from. I figure a couple of years after out passes and prices will actually go down as the tax stamp has really made it a specialty/novelty market.

Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3
