Many good suggestions here. I would add a couple more.....
1) Have a map of your area and make a basic game plan. Be flexible and willing to modify your plans based on changes in the field. Be able to go with the flow. Trust your senses.
2) Set some sort of a standard or bench mark as to the type of animal you're looking for and then stick to it.
3) As the season winds down, don't panic. Be patient!
4) Sometime during the season, take a youngster hunting, even for just one afternoon.
5) Share your stories and pictures! Hero shots are a must, but don't forget a few scenery photo's, pictures of your camp, and your hunting partners.

Good Luck to all this season!

You are 100% right. They do not mix and it is irresponsible. I am hoping that the above post was said in jest.

I didn't take the comments about the flask too seriously.

Even so - there's nothing any one of us could do about it if in fact someone did decide to do that. Also, I don't think it necessarily means that we condone that behavior. I would say it is a poor decision to say the least. To each his own. I'm sure anyone who might become intoxicated out "hunting" wouldn't be any fun to hang out with anyway. At the same time I remember my heavy drinking days and a little flask would have been barely enough to wet my lips. I don't drink any more.

:o   Oops almost forgot the most important hunting tip!

Initiate Family Appeasement Plan.

This plan may include; flowers for the wife at work, treats left around the home, a gift certificate for dinner out on you-whiile you are away, a nice card mailed to the family as you leave town, even a wild goose chase style game where a single note left inconspicuously out when you leave leads family members on a wild goose chase looking for the end prize. Or, mail the starting clue, so the game starts days later...

The point is this, if you are married....you need to think about those who hold the home fort down while you are away. Do something special, this goes a long way....

Stay optimistic.  I am lucky because I don't get discouraged if I am not seeing a whole lot of animals.  I expect something to hop up at any time.

And, Gold Bond!  I was let in on this little gem during our elk hunt last year and boy, I will never spend another night in the woods without it.  Simply amazing  :chuckle:

If you'd forget the flask all together, you could be sitting under a tree 3 or 4 miles from camp...where'd you'd have left all the hunters in the dust and have the place all to yourself.

leave the booze for around the campfire in the evening after the guns are put away for the night if you gotta have it at all.

That's why it is a kill bottle............after the game is in the tree and only for after it is in the tree................no drinking  here while hunting and really can't stand cigars.

Can you say Celebration.
