The turkey hunting thread is dead this year!
« on: April 13, 2017, 10:01:40 AM »
Anybody going out this weekend? Haven't seen half of the usual traffic on the forum this year. Im heading to the NE right now. My intel up there, says the birds are still bunched up and low. Will be there until Tuesday. Hope to see some fellow Hunt WA members up there. Good luck!
 What are your plans???

I don't think I'll make it out Saturday but might try a run sunday or Monday. Birds have been pretty quiet with this cold and wet we have been getting. I am hoping it warms up and the birds start lighting up more around here.

The wife and I are headed out tomorrow. Hope to knock down a couple. We shall see I found a really nice group of Tom's last year. Trying out some calls this year see if I can get them In close this time.

Good luck! That would be something to have your first be a WA Eastern. If you decide you need help with that, feel free to reach out to me. I'm to the point I have given up on the Eastern.

I was thinking the same thing... Things are quiet here for opening weekend! We patterned the guns last weekend. I forgot how much those magnum rounds kick!

We'll be near Roslyn for Easter weekend with family, but planning to sneak out for scouting or hunting. Then during the week we'll be visiting Rick at Buck Canyon Lodge. I need to get away from work for a while.

They have been gobbling hard all week from the roost. Starting to get real quite after fly down, a week ago they were gobbling after fly down.

He's been out once about 8 years ago. He never really hunted birds until I took him out duck huntin this year. Itll be my first attempt at turkey huntin in Washington. I just hope we find them again tomorrow and he can get his first one.

Birds at our place were really fighting with each other this mourning. Going to strategically set up the Hut aka ground  blind tonite before dark. Get up at 543am. Make hot coco for me and our 7yr old daughter. Head down to the Hut and get settled in for the fly down. It's always better to watch mourning fly down from inside the Hut rather than the front porch. :chuckle:

I would mount even an jake Eastern from this state.  They are no longer managed and I wouldn't be surprised if they are gone completely at some point.  If you kill a tom, you've got a rare trophy.

funny you say that about Sullivan exit, I was driving home last week east bound I-90 and just past Argonne inside the freeway fences where 4 or 5 jakes or toms, big ole red heads and could barely see their beards at 70 mph.  I thought I was really tired or something but I blinked and reassured myself, yep those are the buzzards we are paying to hunt.  i'm almost embarrassed to say we have to pay hard earned money to hunt the pests

Putting some birds to bed right now. Two Toms and six hens. They haven't made a sound in 3 hours. Only time they gobbled was when a deer ran by them. The birds are really quiet today.

Skipping the weekend and opener for the first time ever to spend Easter with the family.  Hunting midweek. All is good, I'll get excited when I get on the road.  Good luck everyone.

Seen a Tom this morning and chased after him. I got outrun.
I seen two hens further up out in the open and heard abother Tom gobbling. I hid and called him to the other side of the thicket I was hiding in, but couldn't see him. Not a bad morning chasing these yak county birds.
