Pretty Rough Winter For This Buck
« on: May 02, 2017, 03:16:28 PM »
Trail cam looking for bear and got this pic of a mulie buck that barely survived the winter. He spent a lot of time on the mineral lick. (did spot a couple bear)

Poor fella. May not be out of the woods yet by the look of it. I've seen quite a few rough looking animals lately, and some that look surprisingly robust.

For some reason, I'm seeing a bunch of both whitetails and muleys with a lot of white hair in NE WA lately.  I haven't seen it in these numbers before, so I wonder if it has to something to do with their struggling condition following the harsh winter.  They don't look like they are recovering very fast this spring.  There are still a lot of skinny deer around here.

I was at Bull Hill Training last week and the couple deer I saw looked pretty good.

Take a drive over the Addy/Gifford rd in the evening.... Holy Moley. LOTS of whitetail. I fed over 100 whitetail and 30 mulies over the winter. Never seen anything like it in the 14 years I've been here. 5 1/2 tons of alfalfa , 5 tons of corn&sweet feed , 2 1/2 tons of lentils, and five bins of apples. I had to find a second job for my wife to support the deer.... :chuckle:
