Winchester XPR, on sale $399
« on: April 23, 2017, 02:14:05 PM »
I bought a XPR in 30.06 last fall. Paid 550 for it. Really like the rifle. Wanted a rifle for wet weather hunting.  Was a bit dismayed to see them new at Cabelas today for 399, in a variety of calibers. Are these rifles selling so poorly they had to be discounted? They were all in the Kuiu camo pattern that was a SHOT show special in 2015.

I just ordered one a couple of hours ago in .300 WSM. It's on backorder...so I'll be waiting for a while.

From the reviews I found online it seems like a best bang for the buck at only $400.

I'm interested in what your personal review is of it.

Great trigger, like the short throw on the bolt, I'm partial to that camo pattern. Lighter than my Model 70, more rain resistant. Have broken in the barrel and sighted it in, mostly. Zeiss Terra 3X scope on it. Using the same scope as my coyote rifle.  Very happy so far. I bet you will be happy with it. A steal at that price.

Good to hear you like the XPR.

I noticed that the black version is $479. Maybe they are blowing out the Vias camo version for another pattern or their deal with using Kuiu's pattern has come to an end.

I have one in .243 in the Vias pattern. Love the gun but hate the trigger. Doesn't adjust light enough for my liking. Hoping Timney will make one that will drop in.

Tikka,

The trigger in the model 70 is the same one used in the XPR. Have you tried adjusting it?

I'd be curious if a Timney trigger for a model 70 would drop in the XPR or if there is slight differences in there that would prevent that.

I kind of wish I had bought the .243 instead of another 30-06. I find the trigger on my model 70, supergrade to be superb. The XPR trigger is almost as good.

They say that they are both MOA triggers but they are not the same. Maybe internally but not externally. I've lightened it as far as I can but still not as light as I like it. I shouldn't say I hate the trigger because it'll still shoot sub MOA but just not as nice as my Tikka or Timney triggers.
