Broke out the new Camera!!!
« on: February 21, 2009, 10:59:56 PM »
Ok so it's not so new but I finally got a chance to shoot something other than my kids with the 20D I bought just before Christmas!  :) I was driving home Friday night after work and I spotted some elk at a niehbors back in some timber looking as if they wanted to come out and feed. By the time I got home grabbed the camera & kids I headed back down the block some were just coming out.

It looked like 8 or so back in the brush but only 5 would eventually come out into the open, I didn't see any horn but I was just chompin at the bit to practice.

So you pro's Pope,Phool,Bone,Elkman,Ricochet & others Fire away!!! I allready know what I did wrong on some of these and for everyone else out there let me tell you this is not as easy as these guy's make it look!!! I took 90 pictures in 10 minutes just to get thses few marginal shots before some lady stopped with her point and shoot and got out of her car and yelled " Oh so you have the fancy big lens!!!"  :bash: That ran them right out of the field in a hurry!

I made them bigger and added this one ~

Yeah, I especially like the one with the barb wire fence in the background.  So natural looking...   :chuckle:

Who taught you how to resize those?  They are a bit small.  Try 800 pixels wide.

Hey, you are in the game.  Now it's about getting out and doing it.

I hear ya I am just getting started and I needed something to shoot to start playing with Photoshop, uploading, hearing advice ect ... This was my first time out ,I'll be looking for better subjects in the future ...  I guess Cow elk are not all that exciting for most people.  :dunno: I was excited, but then again I prefer Elk over all other big game so maybe it's just me.

It's a Tokina 400mm ... I will have sharper pics when I get a bit more expierience. You can see on a couple of the that my focus was set on the Elks rump and not the head so the butt is in perfect focus but the head is a bit fuzzy. That's why I said it's not as easy as these guy's (Pope,Phool,Elkman ect...) make it look! Aslo the first two on here I took without a tripod because I started to draw a crowd and I thought they would bolt before I could get any pics at all, Once I got a few I set it up and got a bit better results ... I have a long way to go I'll just need some more practice!
