Can someone ID the type of grouse I'm looking at please?
« on: April 25, 2017, 08:40:24 AM »
Saw a bunch of these last weekend. Don't know much about birds. If I'm there in September, I want to make sure of what I'm shooting. Thanks.

Come Sept they wont be as easily to find as they are now during the mating season

Yep, ruffed grouse..... the second dumbest bird on the mountain.. What is the dumbest?  Meet Mr. Spruce grouse, aka, fool hen; I've killed more than a few of these dork birds with rocks.

very dumb bird, I've had 2 wild ruffed come up to me during bow season and snowmobiling. The one snowmobiling in little natches came up to me and walked up my arm when I put it down to him, he ended up walking up on the top of my head, had pictures somewhere.  The other one walked up to me and my dad, after my dad missed it with his bow it just followed us around, even went around a meadow and met us on the other side.  We were able to pick it up and pet it, crazy.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
