Looking for some location guidance
« on: April 26, 2017, 04:10:34 PM »
Hey all,

I've been reading through here and taking notes so thought I would go ahead a make a post.

I will be heading out somewhere the 2nd week of May and plan to camp for 4 days while looking for a tom. I haven't decided if I will try use my recurve yet or bring the shotgun.

I live in Olympia and would love to find some areas within 4 hours of here if possible. I have a couple decoys and have hunted turkey in Oklahoma, North and South Dakota but never in Washington yet.

What I am asking for is some general guidance on a location with lots of public land to try make it happen in. If you have some ideas I would appreciate the help. I do plan to bring my tent and gear, walk in and camp away from the road, maybe even bring my fatbike to make the travels faster and further if need be.

Thanks for any and all reply's and PM's are definitely welcome.

Go to where the birds are on public land, which in Washington is in the Blue Mountains and surrounding foothills and Stevens County. There are other places closer to Oly, but birds are more scarce, love private land and in general, are a tough hunt...but don't listen to me, I suck at turkey hunting, really.

Personally I would make the trip to the colville area, way more birds and by then the birds will almost certainly be broken up and in the higher elevations that are primarily public land.

That was my original plan. Will see. Thanks for the reply!

If 4 hours is your cut off,  try the klickitat.  About 7 to the northeast.
