Musket caps
« on: April 28, 2017, 04:20:32 PM »
So it's been a while since I've shot a muzzleloader.  Last one I owned took #11 caps, that was 15 years ago.  I went out and bought a CVA optima and picked up two packs of #11 caps.  Much to my surprise, they won't fit my gun.  Musket caps only.  So, where do you find Musket caps?  I've been to every gun shop in my area and no one carries them.  I really have no desire to order 1,000 caps.  Just looking for 100-200.  Seems like a lot of people say the RWS 1081 is the way to go, so that's what I'm looking for.  Any in the Oly area?

Anywhere, except in the Olympia area, since Cabelas is the only option.  >:(

Made the run to sunbirds and they don't carry them anymore.  Any oly options?  Cabelas was a negative as well.

I was thinking about changing the nipple out to #11 since they're easier to find. Haven't really put much effort into it, as I did buy two packs of musket caps at muzzleloader supply.

Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

Optima doesn't allow the option of just changing the nipple.

Muzzleloader supply on river rd always has everything.

Yes they usually do.  They carry everything it seems, and usually have what I need in stock.

One of the problems you guys might be experiencing with Musket Cap availability is the companies are going back to producing re-enactment musket caps that do not have the charge that they use to have.  Because of that they are not as popular as they once were. The foreign caps like Schuetzen & the German RWS 1081's remain full power but are more expensive.

You can see they are clearly marked for reenactment

These are the older caps - not designated reenactment

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

He has musket caps because he goes around the local stores (sportco, sportsmans) and buys all they have then sells them at a higher price.
