Is it September yet??
« on: May 07, 2017, 08:35:21 PM »
I went ahead and purchased the multi season deer tag this year and I'm planning on trying out a new area for mule deer this year for the archery opener in September. I absolutely love scouting out new area. I've been hunting methow valley the last 6-7 years but figured I'd try the higher elevation this year up in the upper Entiat valley. I've been researching different trails to check out, looking to hunt around the 5,000 ft elevation. I'm planning on going over at least once a month starting next month for 3 days at a time to scout out a few different areas hoping to find a good concentration of deer. I'm assuming wherever I find the deer is basically where they'll be September 1st being that they'll pretty much still be in their summer routine. Does this plan sound about right? Any tips you guys might add would be much appreciated. Can't wait till hunten season boys, it's been a looooong miserable rainy season!! Everything I read and hear is all about the late hunts in this area. I like the fact that it'll be challenging to search for a good buck up high with my bow. Pretty sure the success rate in September is probably 0.1% but I love the challenge!!

The higher elevation areas in the upper Entiat are a bit higher than 5k.   If your looking for bigger/quality bucks you may want to add 2k' to the elevation. IMO

Yeah I'm still doing my research, I'm sure the big guys will be hanging out about as high as they can get. Just got my green trail maps in the mail today. Looks like a lot of closed gated roads in a certain area up there which I would love to hunt closed gated roads. The problem however is it looks to only be at the 4,000 ft range. I'm not looking for a monster buck just a decent legal buck.
