Thanks for all of your replies fellas.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

Good luck and don't go into it with high expectations. Plan on a nice outdoor experience an bonus if you score on a bead let alone a legal buck

You don't want to camp in the basin you want to hunt. A short distance away is much better. It's best to camp in an area where you can access several basins fairly easily.

yeah that way you can glass down into that basin and see all the wall tents and horses.

Yeah, I totally understand that you should always measure success on the experience and not the animal.  My main goal and focus is bear.  So I plan on going in August, but can't wait until high buck.  I'm a wedding DJ and before I knew about the high buck dates I booked a wedding on the first weekend of high buck (Rookie Mistake).  So the 2nd weekend will be my go to.  I plan on bringing  my fly rod with me for some alpine trout.

What also helps me on the high and warm hunts is we deboned everything on the first buck bagged it and submerged it under water in " the " lake where we were so we could keep hunting to try and fill my buddies tag. Hefty sacks are very light , but make sure to take some tape to seal the bags up good
Good luck !!

:yeah:  we've also built little racks over creeks in a shady spot and left them in game bags.

This post makes me nostalgic. Before I had spent time on the high hunt, I had this ideal of the mountain lake in the way back, catching fish and killing deer.  I found over time in WA, that is primarily something that exists in ones daydreams rather than reality.  As time went on not only did I come to figure that out, but then the idea that I'd carry fishing equipment would still get me to laugh out loud.

I've shot unspent ammunition not to have to carry it and the load I just put on my back. Until you done that kind of pointless but symbolic purging of weight, you might not understand.

A lot of rice went in the fire at the end of one elk hunt years back.

How many of you guys stay on trail versus making camp off trail somewhere?
