New Chicken Coop => New Neighbors

So I got a chicken coop two months ago with 4 chickens. I bought the coop from Amazon because I didn't have time to build one myself. I really need to make time to make a new one.

Anyways, I started noticing some scratches on the door frame. I thought it might be a neighbor cage. The scratches weren't big and no footprints. We do have coyotes, cougars, and deers in our area but it's really very rare.

So I finally broke down and bought a game camera! Moultrie A-20 with a 32gb card.

So it turns out I have a couple of small mice and a mother.

I put a couple of mice traps out with peanut butter.

I caught one last night.

I watched the videos this morning. Man, so addictive!!! I was hoping to catch the bugger getting axed but the camera wasn't fast enough.

But the mother and the other mouse were hanging around even though the other mouse was not moving anymore.

So I can't put out poison, other than traps is there anything else I can do?

The water bucket traps seem really effective. It seems that mice are a given when you get chickens. I'd get a cat.

I've been using bucket traps for years.  Mine are made from a foam plate and a coat hanger.  They can be incredibly effective.

Check out Shawn Woods on youtube.  He features so many mouse traps, I'm sure you'll find something that'll work for you.  I've purchased a couple of the rolling log styles and have been catching with them.  The walk the plank looks like a great trap but at $25 ea, I'll probably make my own.

it just doesn't get much better than that right there!! That's fun stuff, had goats for awhile and along came rats with them, oh boy did I have some fun, I even shot a hole in my roof

Between rodents and starlings it makes a fun time and great practice ( cheap too )
