Mt. Baker Backcountry Skiing - Mountain Goat sightings
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:17:42 PM »
Went backcountry skiing this past weekend.  Went with my in-laws, a family friend, and my wife.  We had a great day, and even spotted 12 mountain goats (2 herds of 6.)  Unluckily, I get a little bit of buck fever when I see my favorite animals (mountain goats.)  In my excitement I lost my camera case (although I did find it back on the ski down) and took my only blurry pictures.   My father-in-law who has seen the same syndrome cause me to miss a giant black bear says we need to work on it before next season.  :)

Here's some pictures:

Looks like an awesome day! You were close to those goats, I bet the hair length is impressive this time of year.

Yeah, we spooked one of the herds of 6 and it ran up the ridge top through the snow, but one of them stayed back to watch us.  We ended up walking to within 40 yards of it before he sauntered off.  Their hair was incredibly long, they looked like a bunch of giant marshmallows walking around.  It was quite funny looking.

Very nice Shane. You better get that "buck fever" worked out before you draw one of the Mt Baker Goat tags!

Yeah if I ever draw one of those Mt. Baker goat tags I will have spent so much time up there by the time season roles around the goats will probably let me pet them!  ;)
