I haven't really done any updates on this project for a while but I've finally settled in on a couple different loads. The rifle is a Mega side charge billet upper and lower with an 18" ARP barrel in 270 AR. It was professionally assembled by the one and only Gunsmith X, aka Dirk McFiddlesticks.

The 270 AR is a shortened 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5x47 Lapua case (or any other 308 based case) that offers about 200 fps more velocity than the 6.8 SPC from the same length barrel. Here's a 223, 270 AR with a 117 Hammer Hunter, 6.5 Grendel, 270 AR with a 135 SMK, and a 6.5x47 Lapua

For now I've settled on the 135 Sierra MK at 2635 fps for a target load and I'm working up a load with the 117 Hammer Hunter as a hunting bullet. The 135 SMK holds .5-.6 MOA and the 117 Hammer Hunter shoots just as well at 2735 fps with a relatively mild charge. I'll probably run the velocity up a bit on the 117gr bullet to see if the groups hold. I think I'm slowly coming around to ARs as long as they're not in 223/5.56.
