Whoa, far too young.  Been to a bunch of shows, and I've never seen a singer have so much effect on an audience, guys, and especially women.

My buddy sold him a couple motorcycles back in the day.  I helped deliver them to his house in Alki, even went for a couple rides with him in the area, super nice guy and very subdued for someone with such a commanding voice and stage presence!  He's with Andrew, Layne and Kurt now doing supernatural collaborations

RIP brother!

Way to early. First A. Wood then Cobain , Staley, now Cornell. Loved his music. Saw Soundgarden a couple of times what a great band! Saw them at the Paramount back in the day before they popped, one of if not the best concert I've ever seen, getting goose bumps just thinking about it. Had a huge stage presence. Unfortunately news is reporting it was an apparent suicide! RIP you will b missed. Fan for life Kram

As someone who had a lot of friends who were big in the Northwest music scene leading up to the 1990's the entire grunge scene impressed me as one big morass wherein depression is wallowed in and celebrated.

Not that that wallowing and celebrating depression was an unknown commodity among musicians before that time, but my God man that grunge stuff impressed me as a little more than hanging out with an entire cadre of nothing but Joe Btfsplk.

I had friends and acquaintances who were in The Allies, The Heats, The Range Hoods, The Cowboys, No Cheese Please, The Srypes, The Blue Baboons and other bands that were popular on the Seattle music scene and had met most of the early grunge rockers and they were definitely a buzz kill.

At 45 years old and from the Seattle / Aberdeen area in high school he and Cobain along with the other grunge rock labeled music scene peers were in my wheelhouse and had great influence on me.   I feel for his kids, family, and friends.

It's strange that so many of "The Greats" suffer from depression and kill themselves. It's not just music but comedians and other performers.

I'm sure I speak for many that it's baffeling that those who are the pinnacle of succes choose to off themselves, or even do so by overdosing.

He battled with bad depression
It very sad to see that someone reaches a point of that much darkness in their life to take their own life.
His wife said he had takin a couple extra pills of his anxiety meds which causes those type of thoughts to increase
Very sad

In cc case that was part of the appeal of his music as dealing with such things and it helped many people

The fact that his music helped people with depression boggles my mind. I would never listen to his stiff if I was in a bad mood.

I also find it amazing that the one guy who spoke his mind and was critical catches a bunch of grief. I don't care about Curt Cobaine, Robin Williams, or this guy either because they are dead and as such not worth my time. I doubt any of these folks realized how much pain they were going to cause their friends, family and those they influenced. I feel sorry for those people, mostly because they now suffer and search for answers.

One of his interviews he kind of explains as his song writing is how he felt at a certain time and if only one person said I understand what you're feeling because that person is in the same place and the song only made sense to that person then Chris felt as if he was not all that crazy to feel that and  thousands of people felt the same way hearing the lyrics

And I think what you are describing there is what made grunge in general, and Cornell's music in particular so appealing to many. It was real, relatable expression of what many were going through in their own lives.

That said, feelings for his family should have been a prime consideration. Maybe they were; we will perhaps never know. Whether it was accidental overmedication, or what- one thing is sure- it's remarkably sad for fans- can only imagine what his family is going through.

:yeah: Really sucks. Very few singers have the range of voice he had (4 octaves I think) Freddy Mercury was another one with that talent.

First concert I went to was soundgarden/ screaming trees at memorial stadium... I was 15 and would never be the same.

I saw Soundgarden, Screaming Trees and the Melvins in '90 or '91 IIRC. That was a good show. The Melvins rocked.

As someone who is good friends with one of Chris' family members...please remember he was more than an entertainer. He had family and loved ones that are deversated by his passing. I doubt that if a fellow member posted about his/her loved one passing in such a way that we would jump to pass judgement on their character or life. At least I hope so. It is a sad situation and that is that. I will miss his art.. but others will miss so much more than that.

If by that you hope that it comes out that there is credible evidence that he did not purposely kick his own bucket then I can go along with that, but if that you mean that you hope that the Coroner's findings of fact are subordinated to other considerations I don't think that is something I can support.

Why not be honest and tell the truth?  Nothing good ever comes out of trying to spin facts into lies.

Political correctness has really gotten out of hand these days.
