Loose sight on 1911
« on: May 20, 2017, 03:51:20 PM »
:) Went to go shoot my 1911 Kimber, noticed the back sight was loose. tightened it up went shooting. 100 rounds and sight is slightly loose, it has an allen set screw.
I got home and cleaned the threads with alcohol and put loc tight on the threads and tightened it up.
Any other ideas?
Carl

I had trouble with the front sight on my PMR30 coming loose and I even loctited it, BUT, I neglected to thoroughly clean the threads before I put loctite on them and they would continue to always come loose.  Once I thoroughly cleaned the threads, think I used acetone or brake cleaner, then put loctite on them, screwed them back in tight and they have stayed tight ever since.

I think getting the threads clean and free of any oil is the key.  You're likely good to go but if you're anything like me, you'll probably still keep a close eye on it.  I still check mine every time I shoot it just to be sure.

Novaks and it is the rear (back) sight. I will let it sit overnight and shoot it tomorrow. :dunno:
Good reason to go to the farm and shoot anyway :chuckle:

You could pop the sight with a punch where the dovetail interferes. If it was fit too agressivily this may help.

Yikes.... Sent a Springfield Armory Champion 1911 to Clark Custom for $1400.00 bucks worth of custom work, wanted it solid for a carry piece. The rear sight fell out halfway through the first Mag. I just sent it back and said deal with it. It's been a pleasure to shoot and carry since.

Sometimes the manufacturer can sort it out right.

Full boat "Melt down". 😊👍
