Idaho Bird

I have a friend out from Virginia and I've been trying to get him a bear over in Idaho. We were out yesterday and picking some morels, filling bait barrels and just enjoying the day after the rain had passed through. I heard a bird off in the distance that I had heard several times over the past week and a half. So I threw on my leafy wear and headed up and around to get on the same level. Bird was very vocal double and triple gobbling every time I called. He did not want to leave his ridge top, so I circled around and got on the same level. Called him in and got to watch a fantastic display, lots of fanning, spitting and gobbling at 35 to 40 yards. Then he moved a little to my right and gobbled and strutted into 25 or so yards. Boom, nice bird down, 9 inch beard, about 19, maybe 20 pounds, 3/4 inch spurs. Beautiful spot and fantastic hunt. This was my first time hunting turkeys this year.
I was sitting at the big stump down in the red tres, photo taken from where the bird was at when I shot, What a beautiful location!

It's sure fun when you get a good show before the shot. Nice tom.

Nice Fred, must have been so tough dragging that bird out that you have to take week off from work.
