65 and older Anterless Moose
« on: May 22, 2017, 07:00:39 PM »
So I am mulling over my chance in the Moose Lottery.  Huntin buddy and I are both Duffer's wondering why.

8028    49 degrees north
8029    Huckleberry

Both of these are archery only.  :dunno:

Is that a misprint?

Just made me do a double take!! No that is just the numerical order for which the hunts are listed. If you look over to the next line to the right, hunt note U is the only note present. Which states that hunters applying must be 65 or older.

What is the V behind the unit for then?

The footnote indicates archery only.

It's just to differentiate them from other hunts. Look up at the antlerless category- they all end with a "B." Look below at the disabled category, those hunts end with a "D." The only note that goes with the 65 and over is the "U."

The "V" is a part of the hunt name, not a note.

Please don't apply for these 2 permits. I applied for them yesterday and I don't need any more competition. Thanks

With 20 points, would think I will be hunting one of those permits this year. Good luck everyone

I am kidding of course, but I want a Moose permit so badddddd.  Being over 65 (actually now  66) that window is starting to close.

This morning I called and got a clarification, But the young lady also seemed a bit rattled.

She did confirm that the V not in the notes means those tags are any weapon.
My next question to her was then. Since I have Antlerless Moose points already will those carry over since I am now 65. Was told that's a no. My next question was then how do some folks have 20+ points then. Since they were unable to apply for this category until they reached the magic age.
I will be undaunted and still apply in the Lottery anyway. :chuckle:

:o  :dunno:  Now I'm even more confused.  Hope I can keep applying in the regular draw.

Separate categories were created in 2010. Prior to that there was one category for moose. Whatever number of points an applicant had going into the 2010 season were replicated across all the categories. If for example someone had 14 points for moose, his 14 points would be replicated into all the moose categories including 65 and older. Add seven more years and he could have 20+ points.
