7.62x54r hunting ammo
« on: May 22, 2017, 08:47:19 AM »
Hey guys, I have my heart set on harvesting a deer with the old mosin this year. As of right Now, all I have is steel core surplus ammo. So before I go buy a box of soft points, I figure I might ask the opinions of some hunters. I'm comfortable shooting out to 125 yards with it. I'm able to hit my 6" ar500 gong very consistently at 125. Any suggestions on hunting ammo I should get?

I shot a deer in WI a bunch of years ago with one, can't remember the soft point ammo I bought, but it worked at 15 yards....   :chuckle:

I think I have reloading dies I could loan you if you want to try that route.

I want to start reloading here soon. I'm thinking just about any soft point will work, just didn't know if you guys had any favorites

Just about any of these soft points should work fine.  The S&B and PPV have worked well for me in my 7x57Rimmed.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I don't think it matters much as to which brand you got. I hunted a year with a Mosin, but didn't get anything. I'd like to give it a go again sometime.
