Camping near Stehekin
« on: May 16, 2017, 09:23:54 PM »
So I'm fairly sure I'm gonna go check out lake chelan NRA for the high hunt this year
(This is not the place to talk me out of it, I'm going for the outdoor experience if I see deer that's a plus if it's a shooter then a bigger plus)
My question is where should I camp?
We aren't boating there we will have to take the ferry.
I'm willing to pay for a campsite and am willing to hike as well.
Question is- are the only spots I can pitch a tent the areas that are designated campgrounds or are there areas up there you can just pitch a tent and call it a night?

Thanks guys

If it was me I would not be camping in Stehekin. I would hike in a ways and make camp way closer to the high country. You are supposed to have a permit since its part of the NPS if you camp by the trail system I believe. So I would call them tomorrow to see how hard it is to get a permit in some of the different drainages in the rec area.

I'll dig out a map and point you in a direction you should at least see game whether it's bear or deer. I've been to Stehekin a few times with my wife but never hunted out of there before. Good luck on your hunt this fall.

Regards, Branden.

If you search, there was a very informative thread a few years ago, that covered a lot of the issues you will run into. If I remember right, water is the main concern. There is very little water, so what you need you have to bring.
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144.1
