Youth Opportunities
« on: June 26, 2017, 08:40:51 PM »
My son passed his hunters safety course and I want to make the next couple years all about him and really show him a good time. I am an upland hunter but grew up big game hunting with a rifle and would love to show him the whole season. He is ten so shooting something bigger then deer is probably out of the question just because of the heavier loads required. He is a good shot and can handle his 250 savage youth model just fine. He can walk a lot with no complaints 17 miles in chukar country was our biggest day and he finished it by building a fort and sleeping in it. We have hunted grouse, chukar, quail, huns and ducks together. He is fine with being uncomfortable and paying the price of a hard earn prize.  We have a red setter that is bird crazy.  We have a boat to get to some great places. We live in Olympia and can only do max 4 day trips.  We are new to hunting big game here in Washington and would like some tips on where to go and how to hunt it . Really want to take advantage of the youth opportunities and get this kid hooked for life. My dad took the time with me even though we didn't have any special hunts but he sure did focus on me and now I am all about being outdoors and enjoying the good life. I would like to pay that forward x10 by taking advantage of his special youth opportunities and showing him lots of great places. Deer Rabit, Doves, Quail, chukar, grouse, ducks, geese, or huns. Don't really care just want to show my son some action in great places.

For trade we can do some hardwork. We can be some great camping buddies. I got a lot of info on steelhead and salmon runs on the westside. We mushroom hunt, gold prospect, forage, collect rocks etc. We are good story tellers. We are from Nevada. Not sure what else to offer but ask and we might be able to return the favor.

If you had to do it over again with your kids what hunts would you go on.

Anyways hoping to get some feedback. You can PM if you want. And I wont be giving away any secret spots on the internet or bringing back a bunch of grown ups during regular season. I simply want to show this kid and incredible experience and add to our group another passionate supporter.

Check the deer areas with youth seasons. Might take some door knocking, or gis research and phone calling, because lots of those areas are private land, but they're pretty much a slam dunk. There's a reason they're listed antlerless whitetails for kids and seniors, there's way too many deer.

There is a 2017 youth hunt the seattle Puget sound SCI chapter is sponsoring.  That would be a great trip.  See the thread on that one.
