i have a rough idea of what i'm doing, last year i made an attempt with a buddy from work and it seems we both have about as much knowledge as the other.

got my rifle (winchester 32 special), my orange vest, some deer pee in a bottle (if only i could get paid $5 for a small bottle of mine), binoculars, ambition, sandwiches packed, but absolutely no know-how.

I was planning to head east with a friend, but that trip didn't work out... and my truck isn't up for that kind of a drive.

I'd really like to put a deer in the freezer, on the wall, and in the photo album this year. My only successful hunting experience has been grouse when i lived in Alaska. I'm fond of the outdoors and will not whimper if it gets cold, rainy, all around crappy.

If someone gets something early in the season and wouldn't mind joining me and showing me how to do what, I'd be extremely appreciative. Or if someone wouldn't mind me joining them just to watch (my gun will stay at home) and get in the way, that'd be awesome too.

(sorry just realized i am basically looking for a free guide, without the whole guided experience. please don't be offended)

after reading a few similar posts, i feel i need to point out;
if i need equipment that i don't have... I'll have it inside an hour of needing it (provided something that takes a visa is open)

I'm a heavy smoker (got me some nic patches), fairly out of shape, 25 y/o desk jockey. I won't collapse on the trail, i might be a little slow but i can catch up.

not that it's some huge achievement, last weekend hiked pine lake in chuckanut with a 50 lbs sack in about an hour (2 1/2 miles, the first 1 1/2 is about 1500 [i think] elev gain)... just trying to point out i can sorta hold my own, not trying to brag cause i know i should be able to do better.... but it was the birthday solo camping/fishing trip....

Good luck bud.  It is usually the newbies that knock down a big one.  No matter what, enjoy the experience.

well i saw one buck... got on the radio to confirm that spikes about 3/4 of the deers ear was legal. set the radio down to find myself a better shot (he was silhouetted 5-10 degrees higher than me with nothing behind him, that and i could only see his head and neck...),while repositioning i was freaking out and didn't pay attention to the nice dry timber in front of me. crack! and off he runs.
rock throwing distance!

I'll find him again tomorrow.

had a blast wondering up on high teens number of doe's...
i know not everyone will agree or appreciate too much (much like fly fishers and catch and release), but for a first I'd be happy with just about anything....

Sounds like a good day out to me! I didn't see any deer this morning but was not out long. I heard lots of people shooting birds far off in the distance though. Will be out again tomorrow. Next weekend going east instead.

Good luck there  :hello:

If you saw close to 20 does in one day on the westside, sounds like your uncle got you into a pretty good spot!  I'd keep hitting the same general area, particularly if you can go midweek when hunter pressure will be down.

late season is this weekend, so again i'm gonna beg and plead, anyone willing to help someone new to this game out?
