winthrop backpacking
« on: May 23, 2017, 10:28:48 AM »
So I am planning a trip to Winthrop for the 4th of july weekend and have a hotel booked for the first night to check out the town, then I would like to do a 1 or 2 night backpacking trip somewhere in the area.  Just looking for ideas of where to go, I mostly backpack the Olympics.

Lots of options depending on the type of terrain you want to spend time in. I can think of half a dozen trailheads within an hour drive of there that will get you into high elevation wilderness. You could head a little further east and do some backpacking in more moderate elevations in the east end of the Pasayten.

Lightening Creek trail by the Volstead gate has a bunch of different options. Depends on the terrain you want. You can go off trail anywhere along the route.
Falls Creek trail, Eight Mile, all offer many options to hike the back country.
You could even drive up FS RD 37 and pick a draw to head up.

Twisp area there is Scatter Creek trail, Gilbert Trail, Johnson Ridge.

Mazama has tons of trails as well.

Beautiful country!

Don't forget Twisp river.  Several lakes and trails to hike to.

The trail to Black has been snow free for almost a month.  A few blow downs along the way but nothing terrible.
